A note about genetic testing

Genetic testing is just one piece of cancer risk evaluation. Most subscribers — even those with elevated family history risk — do not meet clinical criteria for genetic testing. That is by design: established clinical guidelines (Amsterdam II for Lynch syndrome, Chompret for Li-Fraumeni, and others) reserve testing for specific family history patterns where a genetic finding would change clinical care.

If you do not meet testing criteria, that does not mean you are without elevated risk. Family history alone can warrant heightened surveillance, lifestyle attention, and ongoing monitoring. That is what your Helix Reserve subscription supports — whether or not testing is part of your individual situation.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a substitute for genetic testing?

No. Helix Reserve evaluates your family history against published criteria for hereditary cancer syndromes. If your pattern warrants genetic testing, your counselor will guide you through the process — you won't be left to figure it out on your own.

What if my family history is incomplete?

The engine accounts for partial information and will flag patterns where additional history would improve the assessment. You can update your assessment as you learn more.

Who reviews my case?

Licensed genetic counselors. We do not let an algorithm alone make clinical recommendations.

Is this HSA/FSA eligible?

Likely yes — most HSA/FSA plans cover genetic counseling services. Check with your plan administrator. We're working on integrated HSA/FSA payment processing.

What does my subscription include each year?

Annual reassessment under updated guidelines, quarterly check-ins, alerts when new clinical criteria affect your case, and updates to your family history as you learn more.
